Who’s ready for Summer?
The weather is finally warming up and do you know what it means? It’s time to put away our winter hats and coats and we have to take out our spring and summer outfits, and don’t forget flip flops and sun hats!
Well, if you don’t have one, why not make one, right? If you can crochet then this pattern is something you might want to try on making! If you don’t crochet and you want to have this specific sun hat for you and your kiddo then maybe I could help you with that. Send me a message and we can talk about all the details!
Sun hats are great to wear while playing with your kids in the yard, walking around your neighborhood, going to the park and to the beach (if it is safe and is allowed to do so).
Okay, let’s start with the pattern!
I am participating in the Sun at Home Blog Hop which started last May 11th and will end on the 31st. This blog hop is hosted by Sunflower Cottage Crochet. Check out this blog hop to see the amazing free patterns shared by different awesome designers. The My Favorite Sun Hat pattern will be featured on May 24th. So for the whole day, you can get this pattern for free using the code SUNATHOME on Ravelry!

NOTES
- This pattern is worked in the round. For the swatch gauge pattern, use the Body pattern of the sun hat (in the round). Watch this helpful video on how to make a crochet swatch in the round.
- Join rounds with a slip stitch to first stitch of each round. Start each round in the same stitch as the join, unless otherwise stated.
- Pattern is written as follows: Toddler, Child, Adult.
- The beginning ch 1 does not count as a chain but beginning ch 3 counts as 1 DC.
- Asterisk * indicates pattern repeats. You will need to repeat all the instructions between asterisks.
- The crown of the hat will curl up but it will be straightened out after the increase rounds.
- You can make the brim wider by adding more rows and following the increase sequence for each round.
- If you want your brim to be tighter and stiffer without using a brim wire, you can use a smaller hook size (like by .5 – 1 mm down the size you’re using for the crown and body of the hat).
- The height of the hat is measured from the top of the crown down to the last round of the body pattern of the sun hat. Lay flat to measure.

FOR ALL SIZES (OPTIONAL)
You can add a bow or flower as an accessory to your sun hat. Also, you can make a long chain that can go around the circumference of your head plus 8 – 10 inches more so you could make a bow. Insert the long chain in and out of the last DC round of the Body Pattern. This will help tighten a bit your sun hat if you feel it’s too loose for your head. (see the photo below)
